Caring for Your Sick Dog

As a dog parent, it is always a scary moment when your pup is sick. But if you take action quickly, you'll be able to get your pup feeling better in no time. If you notice any of the following signs of sickness in your pup, take them to the vet for a check-up as soon as possible!

Loss of Appetite

While some pups change their eating habits slightly, eating more some days and less the next, a drastic change could indicate a problem. A loss of appetite and disinterest in food could be a sign that your dog does not feel well. If other out-of-the-ordinary symptoms accompany a loss of appetite, make an appointment with your vet.

Vomiting and Diarrhea

Like humans, dogs have occasional cases of diarrhea and vomiting. This might be due to eating something unusual, getting motion sickness from riding in the car, or it could be a sign of a bacterial or viral infection.

Increased or Decreased Urination

If you notice that your dog is urinating more or less than usual, it could be a sign of illness. Increased or decreased urination could indicate a kidney issue, a tumor, a bladder infection, or liver disease.

Unexplained Weight Gain or Loss

If your dog starts to gain or lose weight without explanation, it could be a sign of an underlying health condition such as parasites, cancer, or Cushing's disease.

Changes in Personality

If your pup seems unusually tired or lazy, or if they seem irritable or aggressive, it could be a sign that they're not feeling well or are in pain. If you notice any changes in your dog's personality, take them to the vet to have them checked out.

What’s Best for Your Pup

No one knows your pup better than you do, so if you think something might be wrong, it's always best to err on the side of caution and take them to the vet. With early detection and treatment, most illnesses can be easily resolved. So if your dog is showing any signs of sickness, don't hesitate to take them to the vet!
