With the COVID-19 pandemic keeping millions of Americans (and their pups) inside, the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation was excited to launch the ‘Step Up for Pups’ Challenge — a virtual and safe way for pet parents to raise money for a good cause while stretching their legs and spending time outside.
‘Step Up for Pups’ Challenge
Across thousands of neighborhoods, we’re excited to announce that more than 9,000 people took part in our 10-week challenge, which began and ended in the winter of 2020. During this time, participants were able to log walks, donate, and win prizes, thanks to our partnership with WoofTrax — a free app that helps animal nonprofits earn donations based on the number of people regularly walking for them and by earning a winning walk in WoofTrax Challenges.
Pet Parents Helped Raise Thousands for Shelters and Rescues
In the end, participants walked more than 1,071,000 miles! Not only did every participant and their pup get some quality exercise, but most importantly, they also helped raise $15,000 across all donor platforms.
As an incentive to get those steps in, we were excited to offer the grand prize winner the chance to receive either a 20-pack of day care at their local Camp Bow Wow® or a $500 donation to the shelter or rescue of their choice! Participants could also win prizes each week of the challenge by logging 3 or more walks.

"With the influx of applications we received this year, we wanted to create a safe, but fun, fundraising format that allows us all to step up together and give sick and injured dogs a second chance at life."
